Summary [from the publisher]:
A surprise birthday party set up by my mother, with all my loved ones gathered, was only the start. The surprise dinner my lover took me to after was far more enjoyable—once I realised his nervousness wasn’t about him wanting to break up with me, but rather wanting to spend the rest of our life together.
And after? Well, then it was time to do what I did best: tie Gray up and have my wicked way with him. And that, everyone, is definitely the most enjoyable part of it all.
I’m noticing lately that excessive typos and awkward sentences are making me increasingly cranky. I generally have lower expectations for self-published titles and as long as the story is fresh and memorable, I won’t downgrade it for errors. Now that I seem to be reading more self-published fiction, I’m becoming less tolerant of errors and expect the same high quality and standards as I do from traditionally published stories, even if they are free or discounted. Is that unreasonable?
That said, I enjoyed certain aspects of this short about two very different men, Ash and Gray, who have been together two and a half years. Ash knows he’s in for a big surprise, but Gray’s nervousness leads him to think it won’t be a good one. When Gray finally does pop the question, Ash can’t wait to get home so he can express his love.
I loved the little flashback when Ash and Gray had their first kiss, and while I felt Ash’s narration was done well here, I would have liked to read Gray’s perspective. As much as I enjoyed their scorching sex, the kink, and the D/s elements, I actually was more interested in their relationship and found the story’s short length didn’t allow sufficient character development.
